Symposium Sparks Women's Philanthropy Week in Chicago
This week is Women's Philanthropy Week in Chicago in conjunction with the #WomenLeading Philanthropy symposium in the city.
The April 2-3 symposium, featuring some of the top women philanthropists and experts in the field, is organized by the Women's Philanthropy Institute at the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy. Pentera President & CEO Claudine A. Donikian serves on the advisory council of the institute.
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel proclaimed Women's Philanthropy Week in recognition of the "visionary women who commit to the important work that strengthens our greater society." The inaugural national symposium features more than 25 presenters highlighting the impact of women as leaders in philanthropy, such as:
- In nearly every income group, women give more than men.
- Women control more than $20 trillion in global spending and earn more than $13 trillion annually.
- The Million Dollar List contains 1,287 gifts made by individual women from 2000-2012 totaling more than $17.5 billion.
